Cubs Struggle to Score for Lilly, Lose Ground to Cardinals.

Davis (11-11) won for the sixth time in seven decisions — his one loss came last Monday, when he lasted a season-low two innings and gave up six runs against Milwaukee. The Diamondbacks remained two games ahead of San Diego in the NL West.  Doug Davis made sure his performance earlier in the week was just a bump in the road.

The Arizona left-hander scattered six hits and allowed one run in seven innings, leading the Diamondbacks to a 3-1 victory over the Chicago Cubs on Saturday night.

Bears Offensive Looks Good in Most Important Preseason Game!

Rex Grossman showed his good and bad sides.

He fumbled another snap and had an interception returned 52 yards for a touchdown. But along with the mistakes came the moments of brilliance that have teased the Chicago Bears the past few seasons.

Grossman played the first half and passed for 211 yards and two touchdowns, and the defending NFC champions held off the San Francisco 49ers 31-28 in a preseason game on Saturday night

White Sox wave the White Flag!!

White Sox fans wonder why this team has quit on them.  The Boston Red Sox have come into Chicago and totally humilated the White Sox and their organization.

Chicago got its only runs on Paul Konerko’s two-run homer off reliever Kyle Snyder in the eighth. The White Sox lost for the 12th time in 14 games and fell 17 games under .500 for the first time since 1999.

Manager Ozzie Guillen met with his team after the game. He said his players haven’t quit on him but he doesn’t want them feeling sorry for themselves.

“It’s not easy for me to come here and see this thing day in and day out,” Guillen said, adding he went to the field so many times to change relief pitchers in Boston’s eight-run eighth that he lost count.

NFL Suspends Vick! Bad Newz for Michael!

The NFL indefinitely suspended Michael Vick without pay Friday just hours after he acknowledged in court papers that he did, indeed, bankroll gambling on dogfighting and helped kill some dogs not worthy of the pit.

Vick, however, insisted he placed no bets of his own nor took any winnings.

Cubs bats come alive in the land of BALCO! The “RIOT” starts in 9th!

Maybe it was the smell of HGH in the air?  Cubs wait until the 9th to put up a 5 spot and keep lead in NL Central.

Lincecum (7-4) was three outs from his first career complete game when the Cubs finally got to the rookie right-hander. Ryan Theriot doubled to start the ninth, Jacque Jones followed with a base hit before Derrek Lee’s RBI single tied the game at 1.   Two batters later, Floyd singled off Brad Hennessey to put Chicago up 3-1.

“Floyd gets a big hit,” Piniella said. “Cliff had to really feel good about that. I’m happy for him. It should lift his spirits. I told him before the game, ‘Cliff, we need you.”‘

Scott Eyre (1-1) pitched the eighth for the win against his old team. Jason Kendall added a two-run single later in the ninth off Steve Kline for the Cubs. Chicago began its six-game West Coast trip with a hard-fought win and stayed even with the Brewers, who won 7-4 at Arizona.

Bears win despite Mr. Butterfingers!

Bad Rex was back at his worst Monday night. Not that the Chicago Bears needed any reminders of what happens when Grossman goes awry — even in the preseason. After struggling for most of Grossman’s 26 plays, the Bears’ backups bailed him out and eventually overcame the miscues to beat the Indianapolis Colts 27-24 in what had been billed as a Super Bowl rematch.
